Department of Biotechnology
The Department of Biotechnology at the University of Kashmir was established in the year 2000 with the objective of attracting talented and well-trained faculty from diverse disciplines of Biology to impart quality training in Bio-Technology education and research. This DBT (Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India) funded establishment has since grown in stature to be recognized as one amongst top ten biotechnology schools of the country for the quality of the faculty and the infrastructure. The department maintains a very high standard of training, thanks to a qualified group of individuals who have had a fair share of recognition in their respective fields of specialization. Publications in high impact journals coupled with the performance of our students in national & international examinations like NET, GATE, ICMR and GRE etc. and their placement in organizations of International repute, is a testimony to the quality we are proud of. The research Programme of the department bases itself on investigating most modern and relevant fields of Biotechnology leading to the award of M.Sc., MPhil and or PhD degrees in the field of Immunobiology, Signalling Biology, Transcription Biology, Neurobiology, Genetics, etc. Individual investigators of the department have been instrumental in creating a high quality research facility and productivity through extramural support generated from various national funding Agencies like DBT, DST, ICMR, UGC, among others.
